PMS Escape for Overwhelmed Mamas

Does THAT time of the month derail you emotionally and physically?

Low energy?

Pain?

Bad Mood?

Overly emotional?

Wish you could just hide away until you felt “normal” again?

It’s time to honor the need for downtime, to the return of the ritual of the Red Tent and Moon Lodge.

Traditionally, the Moontime is the sacred time of woman when she is honored as a Mother of the Creative Force. During this time she is allowed to release the old energy her body has carried and prepare for reconnection to the Earth Mother’s fertility that she will carry in the next Moon or month. Our Ancestors understood the importance of allowing each woman to have her Sacred Space during this time of reconnection, because women were the carriers of abundance and fertility…”
~Jamie Sams from Sacred Path Cards: The Discovery of Self Through Native Teachings

In ancient cultures women retreated into a Moon Lodge, Menstrual Hut or Red Tent during their menstruation.

It was a sacred place for women to renew, recharge, reconnect and receive spiritual guidance.

Women were completely released from their household duties and family responsibilities to turn their attention inward and care for themselves.

We no longer have community Moon Lodges that are easily accessible.

However, we can utilize the concept of the Moon Lodge to create a more peaceful period by giving ourselves a time out while we bleed.

How?

  • Track your cycle and plan you days off.
  • Let loved ones know you are taking a personal timeout.
  • Prepare a peaceful place to rest with self care activities , reading , journal, etc
  • Prepare in advance delicious snacks.
  • Rest without guilt
  • In Northern California, Amador Wellness Cotttage in Plymouth, Ca offers a PMS Retreat where you can relax a nice, clean, orderly cottage, filled with good reading material,  hot tea, and yummy snacks to support your body in a positive,  healthy way during your Moon Time.
  • Ease the aches and pains with a 2-hour massage with my custom cannabis CBD massage oil with therapeutic grade essential oils known for easing PMS symptoms. Massage includes Hot Stones and Salt Scrub.

Then slip into a deep restful sleep in the deluxe king bed just steps away.

    Almond Oil

20161110_104657.jpgA large bottle of Sweet Almond Oil arrived at the  Cottage today.

I’ve already taken liberty as Head Goddess around this place  to liberally slather this lovely oil on my hair and skin to soak in all the good stuff. I feel and smell so good!

After I was done lavishing the oil on myself  I filled a bottle for facial massage ,  created a Couples Massage Oil with doTerras Passion essential oil blend , as a welcome gift  for this weekends airbnb guests, along with a roller bottle  filled with almond oil plus 5 drops helichrysum essential oil for a client looking to sooth dark circles under her eyes.

Almond oil is one of my favorite oils for facial massage, working well for all skin types and very gentle.

It provides a lovely glide that  slowly absorbs into the skin , leaving it supple and well moisturized, yet does not leave oily  feeling for hours after.

Perfect as a night cream alternative to reduce fine lines and dark eye circles.

Almond oil is the best oil to use for infant care and massage.

Despite many misconceptions Almonds are not a nut, but closely related to the peach, apricot, and cherry (classified as drupes). Unlike the others, however, the outer layer of the almond is not edible. The edible portion of the almond is the yummy , nutrition rish powerhouse of a seed.

Sweet almond oil is an excellent massage oil valued for its viscosity and durability. Good for oily and easily irritated, sensitive skin prone to breakouts.

Almond oil is an excellent alternative to   harsh facial cleansers and make up removers.

I dare you to follow your normal cleaning routine and follow up with Almond Oil.

     Apply in upwards, circular motions.

Wipe off with a warm wash cloth. I bet you will see dirt you missed!

Then reapply and let it soak in overnight to nourish the skin and plump up fine lines.

    Healing Facial Massage Blend

    • 1.5 oz Almond Oil
    • 1 dropper
      full Argan Oil
    • 1 dropper full Primrose Oil
    • 5 drops Frankincense
    • 2 drops Sandalwood
    • 1 drop Myrrh

    Massage Oil Candles

The Wellness Cottage has received numerous Airbnb.com reservations for romantic wine country getaways.

Lovely couples looking for a quiet retreat from the busy world.

Whenever I am aware the cottage is reserved as a romantic weekend getaway, honeymoon or anniversary celebration, I take time to do a lil something extra to invite the energy of love and romance.

Bottle of local Amador County  wine, rose petals on the bed, lovers notes to trade, a sultry book, fresh flowers, ect.

Today I raided the apothecary to create a few sensual massage oil candles as welcome gifts for the couples scheduled  in October and November.

Each candle is made with soy wax, hazelnut oil, vit E and shea butter with the essential oil blends of Passion  to ignite feelings of excitement, passion, and joy along with  Whisper to entices and intrigues the senses for an unforgettable experience of touch and connection.

    wp-1476395723112.jpg

Interested in making your own? There are a ton of great recipes on Pinterest. I just went with my gut. If I was making a bigger batch and needed consistency, I would have taken more time with exact measurements , however at 3 candles at a time…I was willing to go with knowledge, intuition and creative freedom. The choice of nourishing oils, protective butters and rejuvenating essential oils are endless.

The Recipe (for 6 tea lights)passion

    • 3 tablespoons soy wax
    • 2 tablespoons shea butter
    • 1.5 tablespoon hazelnut oil.
    • .5 tablespoon Vit E
    • 20 drops of  essential oils

    Instructions

    • Melt 3 tablespoon soy wax in double broiler. I used a pyrex measuring cup and a sauce pan with water . Microwaving would work as well.
    • Stir in 2 tablespoon shea butter right before removing from heat to melt
    • Add oil (1.5 tablespoon hazelnut oil. 1/2 tablespoon Vit E and essential oils, stir, pour into cups with wicks.
    • Allow to set.
    • To use, light, allowing the flame to warm and melt the oil.  Enjoy!!

After making these candles I decided that the tealight size is too small for my intention. Next batch will be in 4 oz candle sizes.

The warmth of the oil pouring in my hand was lovely and provided a nice glide for a moment, leaving the skin soft, however not great for a massage. I discovered  the current candles are perfect for after a shower ….hmmm maybe I need to make some bath massage oil candles. Light, soak, dry off, apply.

Since I can easily store the candles in the cottage refrigerator , I want to experiment to see what is the lowest amount of wax I can use and still have the candles burn. Im sure I could find the info online somewhere, but what fun would that be??

    Until next time.
